Caring About Countries Other Than Texas Since 1964

Values

Statement of Values

The Texas International Law Journal is committed to cultivating a respectful, diverse, and open workspace.

Respect

 Respect through Language

As a Journal we value language, and we understand that the language we use to describe others is significant. We endeavor to honor our peers in the way we address each other, whether that means using the right pronouns or disagreeing with dignity.

Respect through Listening

Respectful language requires patience and calm in stressful situations. To this end we approach every encounter with a sympathetic ear.

Respect through Autonomy

In order for a student-run law journal to be successful, we must distribute the work among our peers. Members are dedicated to our commitments, and we express that dedication through timely completion of the tasks assigned.

Diversity

Diversity in Publishing

The endeavor of our Journal is to share knowledge. Different perspectives enhance that mission. That is why we are committed to publishing under-represented communities in legal scholarship.

Diversity in Leadership

We are committed to seeing the diversity of our community represented in leadership.

Accommodating Different Traditions

We understand that holidays and family gatherings are sacred. We commit to accommodating all traditions when scheduling assignments.

Diverse Values

We recognize that not all members share the same values, but the values laid out herein are part of our commitment to each other.

Openness

Openness through Feedback

The fate of the Journal is entirely in our hands; therefore, if we don’t do it, it doesn’t get done. In order to produce the best product possible we are committed to providing constructive feedback to our peers.

Openness through Honesty

A commitment to honesty requires the self-awareness to express feelings in a congenial manner. When our peers exhibit the courage to be vulnerable, we listen.

Integrity

Working as a team means understanding when your work and behavior impacts others. We coordinate and communicate with our peers when building plans to correct mistakes.
